The impressionist style displays free brushstrokes which reflect more clearly emotions and feelings at that moment. More recent work fringes on post Impressionism and fauvism which dates during period of 1890 to 1910 with a focus on strong colours. Post impressionists uses vivid colours, thick application of paint, distinctive brush strokes, and real life subject matter. Fauvism uses techniques where complementary colours are used which results in a sharper contrast of colour created by primary and secondary opposing colours. This is opposed to other impressionist work where more analogous colour schemes and tertiary colours are used for lightness and depth.
