ARTIST BIO

Jane Kempe, international fine artist is best known for her vividly colored paintings inspired by the sea.

I grew up by the sea. The small coastal village of Point Lonsdale offers inspiration to artists and creatives on a grand scale.  Its sheltered beaches inside Port Phillip Bay, and its rugged surf facing Bass Strait, are constantly changing in colour and mood. The skies are huge with magnificent views from our lovely old lighthouse, and along Point Lonsdale Bight. Sunsets and sunrises are a thrill.

So many beautiful seascapes, bird life, and shipping passing through The Rip. Beachcombing on the seashore reveals a myriad of colourful seaweeds and interesting remnants washed onshore. Summer is vivid. People flock to the water in a carnival of colour and movement. There's swimming, surfing, and paddle boarding, or just reading a book, as the tide goes in and out. From an early age this had been my lifestyle. Snorkelling reveals an exciting life underwater. Creatures living in the sand, the underwater reefs, and tidal rock pools. Seaweeds swaying in the currents, birds feeding, and dolphins curious, but gentle, gliding by.

My art incorporates broad-ranging experiences as a fine art painter, illustrator and graphic artist.

My medium is flexible and colourful acrylic. I have also used oils, watercolour, and gouache. Palette knife and brushwork are both fun to create with, and adding impasto medium gives me a textured, sculputural effect.  Subjects are boats, yachting, and abstract impressions of people at the beach. Relaxation is paramount. The hypnotic effect of waves and water. The sea reflecting light throughout the day. My palette of vivid colours is about the Summer experience of the coast

My work has translated well in tropical parts of Australia. Specifically the beautiful Whitsunday Islands, in the Great Barrier Reef, Australia. Beginning in 2008, I have held many solo exhibitions on Hamilton Island. Tropical light and colour are perfect for my bold and brightly coloured palette.

I have exhibited in Italy in 2013, France 2014 and London in 2018.

In 2016, I accepted an artists' residency in a resort in the Maldives. Three months of painting and teaching on a coral sand island, surrounded by exquisite fringing coral reefs.

I enjoy a multiplicity of styles which are popular with collectors globally including Great Britain, Switzerland, France, United States, Canada, and South East Asia.
