As a young child I was always interested in art; continually drawing with pastels, crayons and pencils on anything that you could use to convey or express your perception of basic things like a cat, horse etc But I was also creative in using decoupage (a combination of drawn images and material to create an artform. At primary school (St Kilda Primary) I always seemed to be in competition to prove I could draw as well as the work I brought to school and I silenced the doubters. At high school many of my works were continually on display whether a touch of abstraction or realism. \r\nMy working life began in an office but I saved enough money and sat for a mature age entry test to Prahran College in Graphic Design and was successful in gaining entry at 19 years of age. However two things stood in the way of completing the course. My predisposition in assisting my parents who were struggling to survive financially due to my father\'s health and an injury I sustained. So I gave up my passion and returned to the workforce taking on Office work and then retiring three years ago and began once again the journey that I should have completed many years ago. \r\nTo say that injustice is one of my passions is an understatement and this can be seen in the intensity of some of my work. I see things in extremes of black and white and if I believe in a cause such as the freeing of Tibet from Chinese oppression then it motivates me to paint. I used this as inspiration (see my painting \"Free Tibet the Road to Peace\". \r\nI also paint beauty as can be seen in my painting titled \"Geisha\" which was undertaken as a wood cut on MDF board and combines both acrylic and oil paint. \r\n \r\nThank you for being interested enough to read this far!! \r\nRegards \r\nLee Nahmias |
